Press Release: The Omaha Symphony Presents a Cozy Night of Romantic Broadway

OMAHA, Neb., Nov. 9, 2020 — Love is in the air as the Omaha Symphony takes the stage to perform a night of romantic Broadway classics at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Holland Performing Arts Center Peter Kiewit Hall. Maestro Ernest Richardson leads the orchestra, while vocalist Michael McCorry Rose and pianist Joshua Zecher-Ross bring the Broadway sparkle to the stage.

The evening will feature tunes that comfort and delight long-time Broadway fans and introduce younger audiences to the classics. Featured on the program are selections from beloved musicals The King and I, My Fair Lady, Oklahoma, Carousel, Pippin, Brigadoon, and more. In addition to these tunes, audiences will also enjoy popular songs from George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, and of course, Irving Berlin’s “Cheek to Cheek,” the namesake of the program.

The music, which is often more associated with famous performers than with their composers, will bring audiences a pleasant nostalgia for artists across history: from Fred Astaire to Frank Sinatra, from Nina Simone to Amy Winehouse. McCorry Rose, Zecher-Ross, and the Omaha Symphony will fill the house with warmth and fond musical memories.

Broadway actor, artistic producer, storyteller, and change-maker Michael McCorry Rose’s recent appearances include the Tony Award-winning musical A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, Wicked, and Anastasia. In New York, McCorry Rose has appeared in concert at Lincoln Center, Avery Fisher Hall, Symphony Space, Birdland, and more. He has performed with symphonies across the United States, and recently starred in a symphonic concert of Chess with the Temecula Valley Symphony in California. He regularly appears in concert with his partner Stephen Schwartz, one of which was recently filmed for PBS’s Great American Songbook Concert Series.

Pianist, arranger, electronic music designer, and conductor Joshua Zecher-Ross is thrilled to once again be playing with Maestro Ernest Richardson and Michael McCorry Rose. He has worked on hundreds of productions and performances in New York and around North America in various roles, with recent credits at Barrington Stage Company, the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, George Street Playhouse, and more. Zecher-Ross is a musical theatre instructor at the New York Film Academy and at Actor Therapy in New York.

Performances at the Holland Performing Arts Center feature physically distanced seating and will only be seated at a maximum of 30 percent capacity. Masks are required at indoor Omaha Symphony performances. The following changes have been implemented within the venue:

  • Enhanced Cleaning & Sanitation - Electrostatic technology disinfecting large common areas, enhanced sanitizing of high touch surfaces with hospital grade disinfectant and hand sanitizing stations throughout the venue
  • Heating and Cooling System – Upgrades to air handling units includes bipolar ionization filtering out viruses through ventilation
  • Staff Precautions – Staff and volunteers are required to wear face masks and receive temperature checks. Anyone with a temperature above 100° or experiencing symptoms will not be permitted onsite.
  • Touchless Experience - Faster and more efficient entry into the venues with touchless security checks, ticket scanning and cashless transactions
