Press Release: Celebrate the Beatles’ Abbey Road at 50 with the Symphony

OMAHA, Neb., Sept. 24, 2019- “Come Together” and get down as the Omaha Symphony brings you a 50^th-anniversary celebration of the Beatles’ landmark Abbey Roadalbum and more Beatles hits, Friday, Oct. 4, 7:30 p.m. at the Holland Center.

Led by guest conductor Jeff Reed and featuring acclaimed rock band The Rewinders, the concert will present Abbey Roadin its entirety and faithful to the original recording. Songs include “Come Together,” “Here Comes the Sun,” “Because,” “Something,” “Octopus’s Garden,” “You Never Give Me Your Money,” and more. Non-Abbey Roadsongs featured include “Eleanor Rigby,” “Penny Lane,” and “I Am the Walrus.”

Released in September 1969, Abbey Roadwas the 11th studio album from the Beatles and marks the last recording sessions when all four musicians were present. John Lennon had quit the band by the time it was released, while Paul McCartney left the year after its release. Abbey Roadwas an immediate commercial success, although initially critics gave it mixed reviews. It is now considered one of the Beatles’ best and has been ranked as one of the greatest albums of all time. The iconic album cover, featuring the band members walking across a zebra crosswalk outside the Abbey Road Studios, has been widely imitated and parodied.

Conductor Jeff Reed is currently the music director of Orchestra Kentucky, which he founded in 2000. Sometimes combining classical and popular music, his concert presentations are singularly authentic, recreating the soundtracks of music’s greatest decade. Reed has conducted the orchestras of Alabama, Augusta, Charleston, Detroit, Greensboro, Knoxville, Louisville, Memphis, Nashville, Omaha, Phoenix, and more.

The Rewinders have performed “record copies” of hits from the ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s, including the music of Motown and the Beatles. Formed by Jeff Reed, thegroup has played as the headliner with the orchestras of Alabama, Augusta, Charleston, Greensboro (NC), Knoxville, Memphis, Omaha, Portland (ME), Quad Cities (IA), Sacramento, South Bend, and Winston-Salem.
