Press Release: Enjoy an “Enchanted Evening” with the music of Rodgers & Hammerstein

OMAHA, Neb., Oct. 1, 2019- “It’s a Grand Night for Singing” when the Omaha Symphony celebrates the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein Saturday, Oct. 12, 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 13, 2 p.m., at the Holland Performing Arts Center.
Led by Principal Pops Conductor Ernest Richardson, the concert will feature songs from perhaps the greatest songwriting duo of the twentieth century, composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein. The influential and innovative songwriting team produced many Broadway hits, including The Sound of Music, The King and I, South Pacific, Oklahoma!, Flower Drum Song, Carousel, State Fair, and more.
Concert selections include “Some Enchanted Evening” and “There is Nothin’ Like a Dame” from South Pacific, “The Sound of Music” and “Climb Every Mountain” from The Sound of Music, “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning” from Oklahoma!, and other selections. The concert program will also feature songs from Show Boat (Kern and Hammerstein partnership) and Babes in Arms (Rodgers and Hart partnership). Singers Alli Mauzey, soprano, Gary Mauer, tenor, and William Michals, baritone, will be featured.
Alli Mauzey just finished performing on Broadway in the Tony Award winning revival of Hello, Dolly! Before that she starred on Broadway as Glinda the Good in Wicked, a role she also performed to critical acclaim on the First National Tour and in San Francisco. She has performed with the New York Philharmonic, Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony, Charlotte Symphony, Houston Symphony, and many more. Among many voiceover credits, her voice can be heard as a series regular on the animated television series Alpha Teens on Machines.
Gary Mauer has long been associated with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, having recently played the title role on Broadway in the Hal Prince production, and on the National tour. He has also appeared on Broadway in Les Miserables as Enjolras. He has performed with the Brazil Symphony in Rio de Janeiro, Chicago Symphony (with Marvin Hamlisch), Utah Symphony and Opera, San Diego Symphony, and many others.
William Michals made his Broadway debut as the Beast in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. His career has included Javert in Les Miserables, Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha, and Harold Hill in The Music Man. He has portrayed Captain von Trapp in touring productions of The Sound of Music, and Billy Flynn in Kander and Ebb’s Chicago. Michals recently appeared in the landmark revival of South Pacific at Lincoln Center. He regularly performs with the San Francisco, San Diego, Utah, and Hartford symphonies, and the New York Pops.
